CHRISTMAS is coming to town, and there's plenty to do in Melrose this festive season.

December will be kicked off with a night of shopping, as local retailers keep their doors open past closing.

The late-night shopping event on Thursday, December 1 will see local businesses help you to find the perfect gift this Christmas.

Whether it's stocking fillers, a gift for someone special, or a treat for yourself, there's plenty you can find on your doorstep in the Melrose this winter.

As well as gifts, shops will have hot drinks, mince pies and shoppers will be entertained by Galashiels Town Band which will be performing carols from 6.30-7.30pm.

And on December 10, Melrose Rotary Club will once again have its Christmas Parade, at 5.30pm.

Over at Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott, there is a range of activities on offer all of next month to get you into the festive spirit.

From December 3-18, the Borders attraction will have fun for all the family, with the return of the Christmas activity trail, experiencing an 1820s Christmas as Sir Walter would have, meet Father Christmas before the big day – you can even have a breakfast with him from December 10, or find local sellers to help with this year's gift, as well as food stalls at the Meadow Market Place.

And on December 9, Abbotsford will host a special wreath making workshop with Hawick-based crafters The Butterfly Bush, to help you decorate your front door this Christmas.
