BIN collections have been missed in some areas of Peeblesshire, a councillor told a recent meeting.

Drummond Begg told this month’s meeting of Peebles Community Council that there are issues in Tweeddale West and that it is due to significant problems in recruiting waste operatives.

He added though that Scottish Borders Council is the fourth best recycler in Scotland.

A spokesperson for the local authority apologised to residents.

They said: “A number of collections have been missed recently in the Tweeddale area due to a new driver being in post.

“In these instances, it was properties towards the end of the route that were unfortunately missed, however collections were successfully made the following day.

“SBC apologises for any inconvenience caused and would like to remind householders to check SBC’s website for daily alerts of route issues and collection delays. In the event of missed collections, SBC aims to return and collect within five working days.

“While SBC is also experiencing a number of recruitment challenges, in line with the situation being encountered nationally by many organisations, our staff continue to work hard to maintain the delivery of services to our communities and appreciate your patience and understanding when issues are experienced.”
