INNERLEITHEN musicians are celebrating following success at this year’s Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships.

St Ronan’s Future Band – part of the St Ronan’s Band family – took home second prize (Preparatory Section) at this year’s event in Perth.

This was the first championships since the coronavirus pandemic.

Conductor Keith Belleville said the band did “exactly what was asked of them”.

He added: “We were delighted with the band’s performance.

“We have worked hard on the basics of brass musicianship and in playing with musicality and style.

“They did exactly what was asked of them and were undaunted by the occasion nor the auspicious venue of Perth Concert Hall.”

Judges in Perth were impressed by the youngsters, with one commenting: “A well-polished performance that had everything. Bravo Band and Musical Director. Well-rehearsed and delivered, I enjoyed your music very much.”

Four players from the Future Band also played with the Scottish Borders Youth Brass Band in the Development Section where they achieved a gold award.
