THE Gala Fairydean Rovers Community Trust donated more than 100 selection boxes to the town's foodbank last week.

The organisation has regularly donated to the service in the past and held collections ahead of football matches at Netherdale.

More are being planned for the future.

Graeme McIver, chairman of the Trust, said, "We have a commitment to regularly collect on behalf of and make donations to the Foodbank in Galashiels in order to support the fantastic work that they do.

“The cost of living crisis means that many more local families than ever rely on their service and we wanted to help ensure that the along with the staple food that is distributed to families there was a treat for the children at this time of year.

“In addition, it is our intention to hold a collection at a Gala Fairydean Rovers Lowland League game at some point in the new year to help the foodbank at a time when donations may have tailed off after the Christmas period.”

John Tucker, the foodbank's manager, added: “The Galashiels and Area Foodbank is extremely grateful to the GFR Community Trust for their ongoing support.

“We are exceptionally busy at this time of year and the large donation of election boxes will make many young and not so young people very happy.”
