A 55-YEAR-OLD woman has died in hospital after being rescued from flood waters in the Borders.

The woman was rescued at Walkerburn at around 12.20am on Saturday (December 31), according to police.

She was airlifted to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Police confirmed today (January 5) that the woman had died on Monday.

A second woman was also rescued and was rushed to Borders General Hospital.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.20am on Saturday (December 31), police were called to reports of people within flood waters at Walkerburn, Scottish Borders.

“Two women were rescued by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“Sadly one of the women, 55, died at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh on Monday (January 2).

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
