TELEVISION viewers in Peebles, Innerleithen and Walkerburn lost ITV Freeview channels on Sunday and Monday.

Many thought it might be their own aerials when pressing three, four, five or 10 on their remote controls led to blank screens instead of ITV3, Channel Four or Channel Five.

ITV’s new streaming service ITV Hub X remained unaffected as it works from broadband.

Some people retuned their smart TVs and were able to obtain ITV HD at settings 103, 104 and 105.

BBC channels were not affected.

One social media post read: “Anybody know a TV aerial repair person in Innerleithen to help my mum. [She is] only getting BBC One and Two.”

An ITV spokesperson said: “I have contacted our technical team this evening and they have confirmed that problems with the service on SD Freeview meant we were off air for three hours yesterday evening.

“That issue has now been resolved after an engineer replaced a faulty transmitter at Peebles transmitter site.”

The spokesperson added that the situation would continue to be monitored.
