IT appears a concrete stanchion supporting one end of the Minister’s Footbridge at Broughton Tennis Club has slipped about nine inches after recent flooding.

Several areas in the region were hit with torrential downpours earlier this month.

Upper Tweed Community Council (UTCC) chairman Andrew Beveridge said he’d walked over it several times recently and noticed the difference.

To many laughs, UTCC secretary Stephanie Jackman said: “And the bridge held ok…”

UTCC vice-chairman Rosalind Birchall said: “The Church of Scotland must have originally built the bridge, hence its name, because it connects the church and the manse.”

Mr Beveridge said there was a suggestion that UTCC put up warning signage but the problem with that might be in admitting ownership.

UTCC members agreed to ask the new countryside ranger for west Tweeddale to look at the safety aspect of the bridge.
