ROADS Policing officers from Galashiels arrested a 30-year-old man after stopping a vehicle on the A7 road near Ettrick Terrace in Selkirk last month.

It follows an incident which reportedly happened at around 10.05am on Monday, January 23.

Police say a man "failed a roadside drug screening tests and a subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of an unspecified amount of a substance thought to be cannabis".

Samples were taken for analysis and officers are awaiting the result before any further action is taken.

This incident follows Police Scotland’s Festive Drink / Drug Drive Campaign which saw a significant rise in drink / drug driving detections from the previous year.

Police Scotland says that it is committed to achieving casualty reduction targets under the Scottish Government’s Road Safety Framework to 2030.

A key aspect of this is tackling the risks associated with drink and drug driving.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Williams said: “Throughout the year our officers will continue to relentlessly target those who selfishly put others at risk by driving after consuming alcohol or drugs.”
