A 41-YEAR-OLD man who assaulted his partner to her severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of life has received a jail sentence of two years and four months at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Following a three-day jury trial Ian Brown was found guilty on an unanimous verdict of engaging in a course of behaviour which was abusive towards the woman at a hotel in Peebles and a house in Gala Park, Galashiels, between November 2021 and January 29, 2022.
It included shouting and swearing at her, uttering threats of violence and, on one occasion, seizing her by the neck and compressing it causing her to lose conciousness.
Earlier in the trial, Brown had pleaded guilty to two other charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on a journey between Gala Park and Galashiels Police Station on January 29 last year and also failing to provide police with details including name and address.
Sheriff Peter Paterson back-dated the sentence of 28 months to January 31, 2022, when Brown was first remanded in custody.
