BACKGROUND reports have been ordered into a Peebles man who grew cannabis plants in his own home.

Selkirk Sheriff Court was told that more than 100 plants were recovered in Mark Simpson’s home in Glen Road on December 23, 2020.

It was estimated the drugs could have a street value of £21,000 if they were sold but that figure was disputed by defence lawyer Ross Dow.

He said his client grew the drugs for oil to deal with his PTSD and also skin condition.

Sheriff Peter Paterson deferred sentence until March 6 for the production of a Criminal Justice Social Work Report and a Restriction of Liberty Order assessment.
