MEMBERS of IT and business consulting services company CGI recently joined forces with Clovenfords Village Community Council and the Borders Forest Trust to plant 40 trees at a former playing field which is being turned into a community space with nature at its heart.

The trees were provided by the CGI Community Planting Initiative, No Planet B, which aims to reforest land across the UK.

CGI members and their children worked alongside Community Council and Borders Forest Trust volunteers who also brought food and refreshments as they planted the mixed variety trees – hawthorn, wild cherry, bird cherry and alder.

CGI became involved after Mick Read, Projects and Programme Manager for CGI in the Borders, learned of plans to transform the underused playing fields into a park where people could walk their dogs, enjoy with their families and come for picnics and to play.

The trees will act as shelter for the Community Council’s plans to plant an orchard, sow wildflower meadows, add activity areas for children, and replace existing facilities to make it accessible to everyone.

John Wordsworth Goodram, CGI Vice President Consulting Services, said: “CGI is proud to support this local initiative and back Clovenfords Community Council in transforming the playing fields by providing trees from the No Planet B initiative.

“As well as supporting our environment, trees do so much for the wellbeing of our communities.

“I would also like to commend my colleague Mick Read for his involvement in making this happen, and all the volunteers from CGI, the council and Borders Forest Trust in turning their vision into reality.”
