BORDERS MP John Lamont has praised the new Hike and Bike Hub in Galashiels for promoting active travel across the Scottish Borders.

After a recent visit, the MP For Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk said the hub on Channel Street in Gala was a “great addition” to the local community and that the team were doing “fantastic work” to promote cycling and walking in the area.

The hub offers information about local walking and cycling routes as well as providing affordable bike hire, bike servicing, led cycle rides and guided walks.

Mr Lamont, said: "The new Hike and Bike Hub is a great addition to the local community.

“The Scottish Borders has amazing routes for walking and cycling and the team at the hub are doing fantastic work to promote these locally and further afield.

“Well done to everyone involved in the project, I look forward to seeing more people enjoying the beautiful Scottish Borders countryside as a result.”

Hub Manager, Angela Crow said: "Since our grand opening in February we have been overwhelmed by the support from the local community. Special thanks to the volunteers who help cover the hub and help with the walks and cycle rides.

“It has been a pleasure to have so many people join us on our guided walks, led cycles, participate in our bike maintenance sessions or just pop by the hub for a chat.

“With this support and the generous funding from Firstport, Cycling Scotland and Scottish Borders Council’s Neighbourhood Support Fund the hub has got off to a great start. We very much look forward to welcoming more of you to the hub soon.
