FOLLOWING recent reports of anti-social behaviour involving off-road bikers in Monynut Forest near Cranshaws, Berwickshire, the Scottish Borders Community Action Team (SBCAT) officers have been carrying out patrols in the area.

Current legislation in Scotland requires riders to have explicit permission from the land owners to ride any motor vehicle or mechanically propelled vehicles on private farm or forestry land.

This has been an ongoing problem for some time and two years ago officers undertook a several of days of action following numerous reports of riders being abusive towards farmers and forestry workers in the area, vandalism and distress to livestock.

Numerous letters were sent to the registered keepers of vehicles attending the area suspected to be involved in the illegal activity of using off-road motorcycles.

A Police spokesperson said: “This kind of behaviour is not acceptable, and officers will continue to attend with the aim of preventing this kind of activity.

“Anyone with information relating to this should call us on 101.”
