PLANS to "level up" sporting facilities in Peebles have been shown off to the public.

A three-day consultation was run at the Gytes Leisure Centre by ClubSport Tweeddale.

Across Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, members – led by its chair Adrian Lucas – talked the public through a series of architectural plans showing the possible future for sporting provision.

The major change would be the relocation of Peebles Rovers from Whitestone Park to Violet Bank, in the north of the old town, into purpose-built accommodation.

Additional athletics facilities at the site are also proposed, including a running track/path.

An upgrade to the current changing rooms at the Gytes Leisure Centre forms part of the project, as well as improved hospitality space at the Tweeddale FC pavilion.

A new build at Whitestone Park which will house enhanced equipment storage and changing facilities is also proposed.

The plans and public consultation were made possible through a grant of almost £5,800 from the town's Common Good Fund.

Mr Lucas said: “This is part of a levelling up bid and finding out people’s views is what the presentation is all about.

“All the clubs in Peebles have got together for this bid to improve sporting facilities in the town.

“They all have their own ideas but have put differences aside to work together.

“Everyone in Violet Bank was sent an invitation to attend this event.”

Tweeddale East councillor Robin Tatler said: “It is a big wrench for Peebles Rovers Football Club, because they have been at Whitestone Park since 1937.”

During Thursday’s presentation some members of the public raised concerns about the possible car parking at the Violet Bank ground, which they thought would be hard to access for a coach and not have enough spaces for cars.

Others questioned the floodlighting as there are houses on three sides of the proposed ground.
