A PEEBLESSHIRE group is set to hold its spring concert this weekend, featuring some special guests.

St Ronan’s Silver Band will hold the event at the Memorial Hall, Innerleithen, on Saturday night (April 29) at 7.30pm.

All parts of the St Ronan’s Silver Band family – including the senior band, future band and the RonanBuzzers – will join the concert, as well as special guests Newtongrange Silver Band.

A St Ronan’s Silver Band spokesperson said: “Newtongrange Silver Band, one of Scotland’s top brass bands is a traditional mining village band from the outskirts of Edinburgh and was formed in 1892.

“The band has been very successful over the years, winning prizes at many prestigious competitions in Scotland and across the UK, including the highly coveted Scottish Brass Band Association’s Championship Section “Band of the Year” Award.

“Newtongrange Silver Band also has a very busy concert programme, performing regularly at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival, the National Mining Museum and most recently with the Love Music Community Choir in the Usher Hall, Edinburgh.

“There have always been strong links between the St Ronan’s and Newtongrange Bands, first through “Nitten” legend Willie Anderson dating from the 1930s and 40s, then over the years when the Band has played as at various concerts as well as taking part in Games Week parades.”

A licensed bar will be available at the concert.

Tickets are £8 for adults, £7 for children and senior citizens, and they can be bought from The Hub on Innerleithen High Street, from Caldwell’s in Peebles, or online at: www.stronanssilverband.org
