POLICE in the Scottish Borders are urging the public to remain vigilant after a recent bogus workmen incident in Coldstream.
Officers were contacted after a homeowner was approached on Monday, May 1, 2023 by a man who offered to tarmac his drive using surplus materials.
The suspect returned the next day and carried out a partial amount of work, without an agreement, before trying to pressure the homeowner to pay. The demand was refused and the male left.

Police are following a positive line of inquiry in relation to the male responsible but want others to be wary and report similar approaches immediately.
PC John Aitchison from Duns Police Station said: “Fortunately, the homeowner did not hand over any money and contacted police so we could investigate.

“I would urge others to be vigilant for this male and to report any suspicious activity to police immediately.”
