A POLICE investigation is underway after nine lambs were severely injured in an attack at a farm in the Borders.

The incident took place between 8pm on Sunday, April 30th, and 11am on Monday, May 1st in a field near to the Shell garage in Jedburgh.

Given the extent of the injuries sustained a decision was later taken to euthanize the animals.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.30pm on Monday, May 1st, we were called to reports of a livestock attack in Hundalee, Jedburgh.

"Nine pedigree Charollais lambs were injured in a field between 8pm on Sunday, April 30th, and 11am on Monday, May 1st.

The decision was later taken to euthanize the animals.

"Enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1661 of Monday, May 1st."

It's the third attack in the area in recent months. Two sheep killed at Over Thickside Farm, Jedburgh, in February, and 14 were killed in a separate attack at Howden Farm in March.
