Watch Will being carried round Market Square in Melrose by Robin Sharp and Ben Magowan who stood in for Douglas Crawford who had a ‘shoulder injury’.

He said: “I feel ecstatic, excited and a bit relieved. Last year was the warm up and to be able to go again is fantastic.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better Melrosian than Douglas (Crawford) although he didn’t carry me round the square tonight and left that duty to Ben (Magowan).

“I’d also like to congratulate Robin (Sharp) on his appointment as left hand man and the one bit of advice I’d give him I to do as I say not as I do, especially when to comes to horse riding.

“It’s great to see the return of the festival. Last summer was one that I will never forget and I’m looking forward to making a few more memories in the coming months.

“Melrose Festival 2022 was a fantastic occasion and I’m sure 2023 will be no different.”
