A BORDERS radio DJ has started his new show with one of the nation's biggest radio stations.

Ryan Borthwick, of Kelso, launched his new 1pm slot with Capital Scotland last week.

Speaking to the Border Telegraph ahead of his Capital debut, Ryan said: "It's all very exciting.

"It's going to be a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to it.

"It's been a few years since I've been full-time, five days a week on the radio so it will be good to be back, and I can't wait for it.

"It's a great team we've got here and I just cannot wait to be a part of it."

The 27-year-old began his radio career with Radio Borders when he was 15 and has worked in commercial radio for the last 12 years.

He said: "I accidentally fell into it [radio] when I was 15 and things very quickly took off from there.

"I decided that this is actually something I rather like doing.

"These big stations are amazing to work for and to be at a brand like Capital, which is one of the biggest brands in the UK, it's an amazing thing to be here."

Representing the Borders on a national scale is something which Ryan takes a lot of pride in.

He said: "It's a huge honour to be across Scotland as a Borderer.

"I'm very proud of where I come from and to be flying the flag for the region is great."

Ryan added: "At Capital I'm the second Borderer here because Meg McHugh is already doing the Capital Weekender and she's on Capital Dance.

"So, it's definitely been a great time for people from the Borders to be doing things in the media."

Ryan's show will feature some of music's greatest hits, competitions and "lots of laughs".

Listeners can catch Ryan on Capital Scotland on weekdays from 1-4pm.
