THE new manager of a Borders hotel hopes to 'show off' his staff and highlight the great opportunities in the hospitality industry for young people.

Taking over as manager of the 99-room Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Spa, near Peebles, is experienced hotelier Mark Steedman.

Mr Steedman, who is originally from Edinburgh, has managed hotels in locations around the UK, including Oxford, Windsor, the Cotswolds and most recently in Ayr, where he worked as general manager of Fairfield House Hotel for nearly seven years.

He said that when looking at his new role the Cardrona Hotel "stood out" to him.

He said: “Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa is one of the top destinations in the Borders for relaxation and leisure activities especially golf and cycling.

"The location is unrivalled, but it’s our people who are our biggest asset.

“Macdonald Hotels & Resorts is renowned in the industry for really looking after its staff and guests.

"I enjoy working with personable companies where your voice can be heard, so this role at Cardrona Hotel immediately stood out to me."

He added: “I am very passionate about development of our people and nurturing young talent, including working with colleges and schools to show people how rewarding an industry this can be.

"I’m looking forward to showing off just how great our people are here, and sharing a true sense of Scottish hospitality.”
