ARE you interested in the sporting heritage of Galashiels?

If so, an event taking place in the clubrooms of Gala Fairydean Rovers FC on Thursday, June 1, will be well worth attending.

The event will be hosted by Ian Hill from the Heritage and Archaeological Research Practice(HARP) based in Edinburgh, who will explain the background to the Sports Heritage Galashiels project.

He will give a presentation and out on show some of the historical images the project has uncovered relating to the town's sporting heritage.

Ian will be joined by Graeme McIver,chairman of the Gala Fairydean Rovers Community Trust who will outline the club's historical role in the town.

There will be a question and answer session and people are encouraged to bring along any old photographs or memorabilia relating to football clubs in the town particularly where they actually played and also other sporting organisations in Galashiels.

This includes old team photos and also structures and buildings relating to sport which are no longer standing.

Thursday's meeting will be a forerunner to a Sporting Heritage Galashiels exhibition which is being planned for Old Gala House later in the year.

Doors open at 7pm and the presentation will begin at 7.30pm.
