A MOUNTAIN rescuer from Uddingston is set to celebrate his 38th birthday by climbing Ben Nevis with a safety barbell and weight plates weighing 100kg on his shoulders next week to raise money for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.

Father of two David Dooher will take on the challenge in a Guinness World Record attempt on Wednesday June 7.

So far he has raised almost £7,500 of his £10,000 target on his Just Giving page.

David will carry the weights to signify the pain/burden which someone diagnosed with MND and their families will go through

David said: “After following Doddie Weir's journey since his diagnosis I learned more and more about how horrendous this disease is along with the fact that there are currently no cure or even treatments.

“Cases of MND are also increasing throughout the population worldwide and will only effect more and more people.

“Because of this I had made up my mind to help raise some much needed funds whilst also challenging myself to complete something which has never been done before.

"On 7th June (my birthday!) 2023 I will be hiking to the top of the UK's highest mountain Ben Nevis, whilst carrying 100kg of weights in the form of barbell and weight plates to raise funds for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation which Doddie Weir set up upon diagnosis with the aim of raising money to develop treatments and a cure along with supporting those who are diagnosed with MND and their families.

“I wanted to signify the pain/burden which someone diagnosed with MND and their families will go through and that is why the weight will be more than my bodyweight and all carried on my shoulders.

“I will be updating my progress and more things MND on social media pages #britainsheaviesthike.

“Thank you for any support you can give and no little is too small. Plenty of encouragement would also be much appreciated.”
