A PEEBLESSHIRE music school is hoping to welcome new 'super volunteers' to help with its day-to-day running.

Nomad Beat, a Peebles-based charity which offers music tuition, instrument hire and music groups, is looking for people to volunteer their time and skills to the organisation.

As well as welcoming regular volunteers, the school is also hoping people will join the Nomad Beat board of trustees as 'super volunteers'.

Doreen Graham, chair of Nomad Beat, said: “The school is a very happy place, and we need volunteers for our reception desk to greet pupils, answer the phone and take messages for the manager and tutors, but full training will of course, be given.

“As a charity, we are legally required to have a board of trustees or ‘super volunteers’ and we are looking to appoint new trustees to the Nomad Beat board.”

Volunteers are asked to give two hours of their time on a regular basis to help with the running of the school.

As well as offering music lessons to students from four years old to over 90, Nomad Beat also offers special projects working with people diagnosed with dementia and their carers, those wit physical disabilities, depression, anxiety, and low mood.

Doreen added: “Charities make a big difference to all aspects of our society, and this requires the hard work and commitment of individuals who step up to give their time and energy to Scotland’s charities.

“Nomad Beat is looking to potentially appoint three trustees and collectively, we are responsible for making sure that the charity works to achieve its aims and objectives and fulfil its legal obligations.

“The role of a charity trustee is extremely important and can be very rewarding and it’s really heartening to be part of the amazing projects Nomad Beat is involved with.

“We need people who want to make a difference and no special skills are necessary, but a good dose of common sense would be excellent.”

Nomad Beat has a modern, purpose-built, and accessible facility at Cavalry Park in Peebles.
