MEMBERS of an exercise class have helped ensure Christmas spirit thrives in Peebles this festive season.
Carmen’s Movers, an over-60s group, donated £230 to the town’s Christmas lights association this week.
The cash was raised through small donations for tea and coffee served after classes.
A spokesperson said: “Chair of the association Anne Snoddy, who accepted the donation on behalf of the Peebles Christmas Lights Association, told the exercise class that the money would be used to restore, replace and renew the lights in preparation for this year’s big switch on.
“This will take place on Sunday, November 26.
“Mrs Snoddy told the group that there will be an extra special surprise this year! Don’t miss the ceremony folks.”
Every £200 raised by Carmen’s Movers is given to a local charity. So far the group has raised £13,600.
Alongside this, two other classes – Extend and Flexercise – have been fundraising.
Together the three have raised £350 for MacMillan nurses.
Carmen’s Movers meets every Wednesday in the MacFarlane Hall from 10.15am-11.15am.
Extend is held on Tuesday mornings in the Drill Hall from 10am-11am and Flexercise takes place on Thursday from 11am-12pm in the same place.
Old and new members are welcome.
