A DOOR of a Selkirk property has been significantly damaged after a package left outside was “deliberately set on fire”, according to police.
Officers have carried out extensive enquiries following the incident on Shawburn Road on Wednesday, September 18.
But a public appeal for help has been issued with people urged to get in touch if they noticed anything suspicious.
At around 1pm on September 18 the package was delivered and left on the landing outside the property.
About two hours later a witness noticed that the package was on fire, according to police.
The door of the property is said to have sustained significant damage as a result of the blaze.
Detective Constable Claire White said: “Extensive enquiries have been carried out, however, it remains unclear why this package was deliberately set on fire and who is responsible.
“We are appealing for anyone who was in the Shawburn Road area between 1pm and 3pm on Wednesday, September 18, and may have noticed an unfamiliar person, or anything at all suspicious, to please get in touch.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2802 of Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
