A DUNS man has admitted extorting £600 from a friend after threatening him, Jedburgh Sheriff Court has been told.
Thirty-one-year-old Daniel Chisholm, of Brierybaulk, agreed to pick up three men who were having a night out in Berwick-upon-Tweed in December 2021.
But the court heard how the vehicle was stopped by police and a quantity of drugs discovered.
They were confiscated as well as a large quantity of cash Chisholm said he was using to buy Christmas presents.
Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said the men had agreed to reimburse Chisholm as he had been doing them a favour by giving them a lift.
But the court heard when Chisholm’s calls went unanswered he made threats of violence towards one man who paid him £600.
Mr Hulme said Chisholm was still due to get the money held by Northumbria Police returned to him despite the incident being almost three years ago.
Sheriff Peter Paterson deferred sentence until March 24 to allow this to happen and for Chisholm to return the money he obtained by extortion.
