A MAN who robbed another man of his car and later crashed into a police vehicle after leading officers on a high-speed chase through the streets of Eyemouth has been jailed for two-and-half years.
Thirty-nine-year-old Alexander Dow pleaded guilty to charges of assault and robbery, driving dangerously and while disqualified during the early hours of April 12.
Jedburgh Sheriff Court was told the car owner had returned to his vehicle when he was confronted by Dow, and ordered to hand over his wallet and keys to the car.
Police were alerted and gave chase after spotting the vehicle – which had suffered a puncture – around 5.40am.
It mounted the pavement, struck a fence and then made off at high speed along a footpath.
The car was later spotted on Harbour Road and Dow was eventually apprehended after crashing into a police vehicle.
In addition to the 30 months jail sentence, Dow – originally from Fife but gave an address in Eyemouth – has also been disqualified from driving for three years.
