A MAN who stole a bottle of rum from a superstore in Galashiels has been jailed for eight weeks at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Forty-nine-year-old Robert Adams thought he was heading home to Grangemouth when he boarded a train at Waverley Station in Edinburgh on August 19.
But he got on the wrong train and ended up in Galashiels, according to his lawyer Ross Dow.
When in Galashiels he headed to Tesco and stole the bottle of rum which he disposed of before being arrested.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of theft by shoplifting.
Mr Dow said his client had suffered alcohol problems since he consumed his first drink since 11 years old which explained his lengthy list of previous convictions.
Sheriff Peter Anderson noted Adams was currently serving a six months sentence at Low Moss Prison for another matter.
He imposed an eight-week sentence which will not affect his release date of December 13.
