A 37-YEAR-OLD Hawick man who carried out a sex act on himself in a couple’s garden has been ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

John Torrie, of Hillend Drive, pleaded guilty to the offence which was captured on their doorbell camera footage.

Prosecutor India MacLean said a woman was in her Hawick home on the night of May 4 around 11pm with her husband when their dog started barking to the sound of banging outside.

But when they opened the front door there was no sign of anyone.

However the woman noticed in the morning that the garden gate was open and when she checked the doorbell camera footage she saw Torrie exposing his genitals and carrying out a sex act on himself.

Ms MacLean said it “lasted about a minute” before he left.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of intentionally exposing his genitals in a sexual manner for another to see without their consent.

Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said his client was appalled with himself adding the offence happened after a night of heavy drinking.

As part of a community payback order he was ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work and placed on supervision for six months.

He was also told to pay £200 in compensation to the woman.
