A SITE visit is to go ahead to discuss plans for a memorial garden in Hay Lodge Park.

Peebles Gutterbluids Society announced intentions to construct a tribute to Derek Scott, a long-time late supporter of the organisation.

The group aims to construct a circular memorial, which would be filled with mixed evergreens and mixed deciduous trees.

The bid was put before Peebles Common Good Sub-Committee on Wednesday, June 10.

Members fully supported the idea but encouraged a site visit to examine where a memorial could fit in the overall design plans for Hay Lodge Park.

Tweeddale West councillor Drummond Begg said: “This is a very kind proposal and in memorials, that’s important to acknowledge.

“It would be helpful to know where it fits in the overall park, where it fits in with the Tweed Trail that’s going to be going through.”

Tweeddale East councillor Julie Pirone added: “All of us round this table would support the proposal.”

She urged the group to contact Carol Cooke, parks and environment manager for Scottish Borders Council, to arrange a site visit and discuss the plans for the future of the park.
