The first meeting of our 2017/18 season took place on Sunday, November 12, at Biggar Bowling Club where a good turnout of both listeners and players enjoyed a great afternoon of musical entertainment, writes Alan Gardiner.

Playing accordion we had Fin Hope, Alec Graham, India Smith, Jim Gold, Jake Johnstone, Ian Graham, John Weaks, David Kennedy, Sheena Dickson and Alan Gardiner. Tom Gold and Finlay Close played fiddle, Alec Graham, Stevie Todd, Jim Gold and young Jenna Johnstone (aged seven) played keyboard with Tom Hope, Ian Graham and David Kennedy on drums. The Scots Music Group from Edinburgh made the trip out to entertain us (Angus Creech, Sheena Dickson, Pat Drewitt, Liz Hall, Billy Higgins, Ed Murray, Elspeth Porter, Ian Ramsay and Andrew Rushworth). Our guest artists for the afternoon were Lauren MacColl from Carrbridge and Angus Lyon from Quothquan, both tremendous musicians in their own right and, as a duo, played a very varied programme of traditional and not so traditional music to keep our feet tapping. Both are members of Blazin’ Fiddles and their professionalism shone through in their performances. Thank you to both for providing a great afternoon’s entertainment. We meet again on Sunday, December 10, at the usual time of 2pm for a club afternoon with a few surprises thrown in. We hope to see you there.
