THE secretary of Peebles Community Council is stepping down after three years in the role.

Anne Snoddy will leave the post in May, creating a vacancy for someone to help organise the group’s monthly meetings.

Anne also served as the town’s Crowning Lady during the 2014 Beltane Festival, and has played an active role in the community for many years.

She told the Peeblesshire News: “The community council is a great team to be part of.

“Community councils are consulted more often than ever about various proposals following the introduction of the Community Empowerment Act.

“We gain an insight into how local government works.

“As secretary you form a close working relationship with the SBC councillors for Tweeddale, SBC officers, local police and the press.

“The community council can pass complaints and concerns from local residents direct to SBC.

“It is a great way to meet all sorts of new people and you’re never bored.”

The main duties of the secretary of the community council include arranging the monthly meetings, working closely with the minute secretary to ensure an accurate record is kept of the discussions at those meetings, and being responsible for any correspondence received by post or email.

As well as requiring good organisational skills, candidates need basic computer skills. An honorarium will be paid.

The community council meets between 7.30pm to 9.30pm on the second Thursday of each month in the Old Burgh Chamber at the Chambers Institution in Peebles.
