THE public is being urged to remain vigilant amid a TV scam in Lanarkshire.

This scam, which has been ongoing in the area, has most recently been reported to have taken place in East Kilbride.

It involves the sale of faulty or fake televisions.

Police Scotland said two men in a van have been travelling around Lanarkshire, including around the M74 corridor.

The scam has seen them stop at retail parks, petrol stations or industrial estates.

The men have been showing working, apparently good-quality, TVs to members of the public, and have been offering boxed ones for sale at huge discount.

The boxed TVs, though, are either damaged or beyond repair, or TV-sized heavy chipboard which feels as though there is a TV inside.

The men appear friendly at first but become intimidating.

The force is urging the public not to approach the men, and added: “Call 101 without delay, giving registration numbers and your location if possible.”
