A SIZE 22 woman who was spending £70 a week on takeaways has shed an incredible nine stone.

At her heaviest, Susan Mackay, 49, tipped the scales at 19st 10Ibs after her weight spiralled out of control when her and husband Colin, 54, got married.

Susan from Gorebridge, Midlothian, spent £70 a week on takeaways and eating out because she did not have the motivation to make home-cooked meals.

The turning point came when Susan was forced to take off her wedding ring because her fingers got so big.

She has shed a remarkable 9st 10Ibs, slimming down to 10st in just 17 months and is now a slender UK size eight.

Susan said: "It all started after I got married.

"We were going out for meals and we would get sweets and the weight just kept piling on.

"I would eat a lot of takeaways, a Chinese and a chippy - I used to love a kebab, chips and cheese.

"I kept saying to my husband that I had put so much weight on and he kept saying I shouldn't worry because I could lose it.

"It went on for so long to the stage that my health was so bad. I was constantly out of breath and I was feeling down all the time.

"I had to remove my wedding ring because my fingers were too big.

"It wasn't a nice feeling. I had to go out and buy a cheap wedding ring just so it could do me."

"We would eat out two times a week and have takeaways for the other days.

"I would only cook once a week and that was a ready-made meal."

In 2017 step mum Susan dislocated her knee and her weight was putting increasing pressure on the joint, making it difficult for her to walk.

The accident spurred on her weight loss, inspiring her to take up a mixture of Scottish Slimmer and Weight Watcher classes to help her lose weight.

Susan said: "I wanted to get an operation to fix my knee and the doctor had said to me that my weight gain was the thing making the pain worse.

"I couldn't do any shopping without being in pain. I was going about with a dislocated knee."

Susan, who took up swimming as part of her weight loss journey, eventually had a knee operation two months ago.

But her wedding ring still doesn't fit Susan, as her staggering weight loss has left it falling off her slim fingers.

Susan said: "She said: "I feel amazing, I just love buying clothes now.

"I just feel like I am getting back to my old self, I'm a brand new woman.

"My husband has been very supportive and my family has been amazing."
