SIR, I walk in Rosetta Holiday Park, Peebles, almost every day as I live nearby. I appreciate its beauty and enjoy seeing the wildlife which lives there.

I was horrified to read in the Peeblesshire News about the possible housing development. I would like to protest strongly that this beautiful natural asset should not be ruined.

Although local residents know about Rosetta, I often wonder if people beyond the area know of its existence. Are Peebles residents aware that people come from all over the world to stay there?

I see vehicles with registration plates from many foreign countries when I walk there. I imagine some people will be touring Europe and others arrive for cycling events. These visitors will be spending in the town and helping local businesses to prosper.

The views of the surrounding hills are stunning. The thought of destroying this beautiful - and indeed historic - part of Peebles which is there to be enjoyed by so many should not be allowed to happen.

I suspect if approval is given for this development, it will be because a bridge on to the Edinburgh Road is part of the deal.

At present there is a large Miller Homes development opposite the Rosetta site and the residents of it also need access to Edinburgh Road. Rosetta Road cannot handle the extra traffic and the only other way in is a country road with passing places. How ridiculous is that? Build new homes and then think about access roads!

I am, etc.
