In 1864, during a brief stay in Peebles, RLS had lessons from the master of the Burgh School who reported that RLS was “the most intelligent and best informed boy he had ever known”.
On June 26, 1882, RLS returned from Davos where he had been staying for health reasons and took his new family to the Manse at Stobo. The Manse proved to be “damp and sunless” and after two weeks, on medical advice, he moved to Kingussie. A fter this visit RLS appears to have had no further contact with Peebles. I am, etc.
