Peebles S1 27

St George’s 13

Peebles S3 37

Earlston S3 0

WITH the Scottish Schools’ Cup now into quarter final stage, Peebles, remarkably, still has all of its A teams in the frame in the gold section.

Two of the quarter finals were played this week, with Peebles coming out on top in each, moving teams closer to their golden goal.

Peebles S1s drew a home tie against Edinburgh’s St George’s who got off to a flying start, resulting in Peebles trailing by five goals to three by quarter time. Some re-focusing in the Peebles camp got their campaign back on track, with a half-time turnaround of 13 Peebles goals to St George’s 7.

The second half went all Peebles way, and despite a last minute rally by St George’s, Peebles ran out clear victors at 27 goals to 13.

Peebles S3s, who have reached quarter and semi-final stage in the last two years, but never made it to finals, drew an away match, but were fortunate that this was a “local” outing rather than a round-Scotland trip.

Such is the strength of the Peebles S3 outfit, that despite this being a gold section quarter final, the fair play rule had to be used by Earlston at half time, with the score taken at that point, and although play continued, no further score was recorded.

This week sees the Peebles Senior A team take on Perth Academy at home, and Peebles S2s play Glasgow’s St Ninian’s at home, both quarter finals of the Cup.

Peebles Planets 39

Gala Tempest 10

Peebles Dynamite 36

Tweeddale Tigers U15s 4

THE Borders Development League was established two years’ ago, by Peebles Netball, to enable players who are not yet ready for national cup tournaments, to get match experience locally and at a developers’ level.

Following its success last season, 12 teams from across the Borders requested a place in the league, which launched with a tournament involving all teams at the Oriam sports centre, Heriot Watt University. Teams were then placed in three divisions to play out over the season for Divisional titles. Two Peebles Netball teams were in action this week in the Developers’ league, both securing wins, one home and one away.

Peebles Planets, comprising all Primary 7 players from across five Tweeddale schools, travelled away to Galashiels to take on Gala Tempest U15s. In a friendly and supportive atmosphere for these young players, the Planets put on a grand show to suggest much promise for future years. Despite Gala Tempest providing bursts of skilled attack in particular, the young guns were just too fast and determined, with a convincing 39 goals to 10 resulting.

Peebles Dynamite, comprising a squad of U14 developing players, drew a home match against local club Tweeddale Tigers. With Dynamite improving week on week, and on the back of a mid-week friendly away to a capital club, the Tiger were always going to be up against it. And so it transpired, with a dominant performance by Dynamite, and a confident 36 goals to 4 win.
