A TOTAL of 70 young players took part in last weekend's Peebles Piranhas tour.

The primary five, six and seven stars of the future were joined by 20 coaches for a weekend of fun and rugby.

On Saturday, their hosts Stirling County provided excellent hospitality, with the Piranhas playing some magnificent rugby beneath the backdrop of the Wallace Monument.

The touring party also visited Dounans Activity Centre, near Aberfoyle, where they enjoyed activities such as raft building, canoeing, tree and crate climbing.

One of the highlights of the burn scramble was the experiencing of jumping into a deep water pool and being fully submerged.

Primary seven player Chris Thomson said: “It was excellent fun, even though the water was absolutely freezing”.

On Sunday, the Piranhas headed to a tournament hosted by Helensburgh Rugby club, where they played different teams from the Glasgow area.

Both of the P7 teams went unbeaten all weekend, which was a brilliant achievement and a memorable way to finish their seven-year journey through the Piranhas, before they move onto High School rugby in August.

Tour organiser Neil Wolfenden was delighted with the thoroughly enjoyable weekend.

He told us: “These tours build life-long memories for all the children involved.

"For many it was their first rugby tour, so to see all the Piranhas laugh, sing, shout encouragement, try new things and play some great rugby, makes it all worthwhile."
