PEACE talks during this week's AGM of the Border Amateur FA have averted a crisis.

Ahead of Wednesday's meeting in Galashiels, a statement from Association secretary Colin Campbell indicated that the entire Executive Committee was standing down due to criticism and abuse they'd received towards the end of last season.

And it was feared that if no replacements could be found for the official positions, Border Amateur football wouldn't be able to continue.

But within the hall of St Margaret's Primary School agreements were reached for almost all of the current Executive to remain in post.

One insider told us: "Apart from one or two people everyone else will continue.

"It took a few reminders of just what was at stake to get everyone on side and hopefully the Executive Committee and the clubs can move forward together and put this behind them."

The resignation threat followed a bitter dispute over the Border Amateur FA's stance on awarding the Waddell Cup to Hawick Waverley without a ball being kicked.

The Waverley, who had won four trophies going into the final on Friday June 1, were due to face Gordon.

But an estimated 90 per cent of the Berwickshire village side were attending a wedding on the same evening and requested the final be played 24 hours earlier.

The request for a change was turned down by the Border Amateur FA leading to a lot of public criticism.

Due to an ongoing appeal, the Waddell Cup final wasn't discussed at this week's AGM.
