LANGLEE Amateurs’ Daniel Cairnie faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he suffered a broken leg at Biggar.

The game between the Division B sides was abandoned, with Cairnie taken to Wishaw Hospital by ambulance.

A Langlee Amateurs spokesman said: “We would like to thank Biggar coach Tommy Robertson for the care and attention he gave to Daniel following his horrific leg-break.

“We also need to thank two men who came over from the rugby pitch and helped keep Daniel comfortable until the ambulance arrived.

“We wish Daniel all the very best and a speedy recovery.”

The other game in Division B was a 14 goal thriller, as Hawick Legion thumped Leithen Rovers 9-4.

Chay Caldwell scored four and Scott Duncan a hat-trick as Legion look to make up for missing out on promotion last season.

Chirnside United recovered from a 6-1 midweek mauling by Berwickshire rivals Greenlaw by securing a point at Jed Legion in Division A.

Brodie Irvine scored for the hosts while United shared the points thanks to an own goal.

Melrose pulled off one of their best ever wins with a 3-2 victory over Gala Fairydean Rovers Amateurs in Division C.

Aiden Mckendrick’s double helped the Melrose men to all three points at Netherdale.

Tweedmouth Harrow look set to be promotion favourites in Division C as they defeated St Boswells.

With a team packed full of players with East of Scotland League experience, Harrow defeated the Villagers 5-3 with Ben Jackson scoring a double alongside goals from Martyn Tait, Jonny Simpson and Robin Brown.

Hawick Waverley fought back to claim an 8-3 win over Langholm Legion in the Border Cup first round.

Hawick had trailed 2-1 but hat-tricks from Dean McColm and Jordan Yardley sealed their place in the next round.

Gordon squeezed past Tweeddale Rovers in the other Border Cup tie, with Gavin Brown, Kevin Utterson and Craig Livingstone scoring in a 3-2 win.

In the Wright Cup, there were wins for Coldstream Amateurs, Duns Amateurs, Kelso Thistle and Newtown.

Selkirk Victoria brought some cheer for the town’s football community in the face of the Lowland League side’s struggles, with an 8-2 Collie Cup win over Tweeddale Rovers Colts.

William ‘Bongo’ Mercer grabbed a hat-trick following his move back to his hometown club from Melrose.

Hawick Legion Rovers and Highfields United also made it through the Collie Cup first round.
