CIVIL manager Gary Jardine is refusing to get carried away after his team reached the top of the Lowland League.

Jardine, who remains the only manager to have successfully guided a team into League Two with Edinburgh City, watched an early Robbie Laird strike earn victory over Dalbeattie Star.

He said: "We are under no illusions about how difficult it will be just to compete in the Lowland League this season.

"We've made a good start and we will hope to stay towards the top for as long as we can, but we're only six matches in with a long, long way to go."

A sensational comeback by Edusport Academy denied BSC Glasgow climbing into the top half of the table.

Thomas Orr's penalty, following a Declan Hughes opener at the start of the second half, looked to have given Stephen Swift's team the points.

But a late David Sinclair penalty and an injury time strike by Max Oulhaito earned Edusport a 2-2 draw.

Cumbernauld moved into third in the table with a hard-fought 3-2 win over East Stirlingshire at Broadwood.

Sean Brown netted twice and Fraser Team also hit the target for the home team while Derek Ure and Connor Greene scored for Shire.

In the Football Nation Qualifying Cup several Lowland League teams crashed out in the first round.

And the biggest shock of the day came at K Park where East Kilbride were beaten 4-1 by Jeanfield Swifts.

A Robbie Holden double along with goals from Christopher Dodd and Connor McLaren caused the upset.

Despite scoring three times - through Marc Berry, Sean Stewart and Craig McBride - Vale of Leithen were still beaten 4-3 at Oakley United.

And Gala Fairydean Rovers are still looking for their first win of the season after going down 4-2 against Tranent Juniors.

Gretna were also beaten, 4-3, by Broxburn.

But there was success for Kelty Hearts who fired six past Dalkeith Thistle, with Stuart Cargill netting a hat-trick.

Scott Lucas and Mark Smith helped Whitehill Welfare to a 2-1 win over Lothian Thistle.

And Stirling won the battle of the Universities with a 4-1 victory over Edinburgh.
