SCOTT Learmond’s hat-trick guided Selkirk Victoria to a fine eight goal South Cup first round win at Waverley Athletic.

The Souters returned from Dalkeith with an 8-1 triumph, with Lee Stephen scoring two following his return to his hometown club.

Blaine Gillie, Morgan Young and Craig Lowrie also found the net at the Vics scored six without reply in the second half.

But there wasn’t a lot of success for the other Borders sides in the competition, as nine clubs exited the South Cup.

Gala Hotspur were beaten 4-0 at Machan United while three goals in the last 20 minutes saw Greenlaw crash out at Pathhead.

Gordon also lost out on their trip to Coatbridge, losing 5-2 to Dalserf Thistle.

However, there was cup joy for Duns as Sean Robertson’s treble gave them a 5-2 win at Carnwath.

Sean Clarke and Ross Scott both scored doubles as Hawick United hammered Tweeddale Rovers Colts 7-0.

And Leithen Rovers came out on top in the other all-Border Amateur League tie, as Fin Muir found the net four times to beat Gala Fairydean Rovers 8-3.

Ancrum put up a creditable showing against Pencaitland, pushing their hosts all the way before eventually losing 6-4.

Cammy Grieve bagged two for Jed Legion in their 6-0 win over Earlston Rhymers, while Kelso Amateurs were utterly thrashed 14-0 by West Barns Star.

And Lee Dodd’s brace helped Highfields United into the Collie Cup final as they knocked out Hawick Legion Rovers 4-3.
