LAST season’s defeated finalists BSC Glasgow thumped Threave Rovers 7-1 to reach the third round of the South Challenge Cup.

Former Dundee United striker David Winters netted three during the rout at the Indordrill Stadium with Ross Smith, Martin Grehan, Spencer Brown and Declan Hughes also scoring.

BSC boss Stephen Swift said: “Threave were a bit of an unknown quantity coming from the South of Scotland League, but I thought we showed the professionalism needed to make sure there wasn’t any shock.

“The South Challenge Cup is the biggest cup competition outside the Scottish and it would be great to reach the final again.”

Craig Malcolm notched up a brace as 10-man East Kilbride beat Leith Athletic 2-0 to also progress to the next round.

Kilby substitute Bernard Coll was red-carded for the visitors in the closing stages.

Andy Rodgers scored a double as East Stirlingshire shocked managerless Kelty Hearts 3-2 at the Falkirk Stadium.

Paul McCafftery also netted for Derek Ure’s team while Ciaren Chalmers and Stuart Cargill were on target for Kelty.

An Aiden Kemp goal after only five minutes prevented Edinburgh University slipping up against East of Scotland new boys, Edinburgh United, at Peffermill.

Stirling University had to rely on two goals in the last seven minutes to beat Leith Athletic 3-1 at Forthbank.

Lewis Bonar scored two of Uni’s goals with Lewis Hunter also hitting the target.

All other South Challenge Cup matches involving Lowland League teams were postponed due to the weather.
