Peebles 62

Howe of Fife 7

Allan Beveridge at The Gytes

FINALLY things went to plan for Peebles on Saturday after a few mishaps in recent weeks.

And the crowd at The Gytes was rewarded with no fewer than ten tries and six conversions during an entertaining afternoon.

The few changes made by the coaches reaped rewards as the home team scored 31 points in each half.

The visitors began well enough and in the second minute full back Cameron Ellison collected a high up-and-under on the Peebles ten metre line.

After beating several defenders his dribble towards the line was picked and cleared by Greg Raeburn.

Peebles scored their opening try just a few minutes later from the first scrum of the game.

Richard Harrison picked up from the back to feed his scrum-half brother Jack, who played a fantastic reverse pass back to his brother to score.

Raeburn's conversion made it 7-0.

But the visitors struck back almost immediately.

From a five metre line out prop Ryan Hood ran onto a long ball to crash over the line.

Ellison's conversion tied the scores.

The relentless scoring didn't stop there - and from the eighth minute restart Peebles forced a lineout on the visitors' 22.

Willy Brown's clean catch allowed the pack to drive towards the line and Ryan Stuart took full advantage to touch down.

Howe almost hit back again but an excellent tackle from David Wills prevented Ben Howard reaching the line.

And the home team were soon 10 points clear as David Collins finished off a good move to outpace the defence from 35 metres.

Raeburn couldn't quite land the conversion from out wide.

Approaching the half hour, Harrison scored his second of the afternoon after charging from the back of the five-metre scrum.

Raeburn's conversion made it 24-7.

And just before half time Peebles stretched the advantage further as Lewis McLennan made a good break before recycling to Cameron Pye for a try.

Raeburn made it 31-7 to conclude the half.

Peebles continued to dominate after the break with the returning Neil Hogarth, who has been out injured since the first game of the season, scoring two tries.

Harrison completed his hat-trick after finishing off a good team move - his brother Jack converted.

With 15 minutes remaining Howe winger Cameron Walker was sent off for an apparent head-butt.

And taking advantage of the extra man, McLennan and Jamie Menzies both went over for tries.

It was a good and much-needed bonus point win for the Gytes men who haven't had their rub of the green in recent weeks.

Hopes are high that similar form can be taken into the Falkirk game this weekend.
