Craigroyston 1

Peebles Rovers 4

PEEBLES Rovers reached the quarter finals of the Football Nation Cup with a victory over Craigroyston.

And super-sub Lee Zavaroni capped the memorable victory with a double in the closing stages.

Colin Smith's team had edged a competitive first half.

And were deserving of Alan McMath's opener in the 21st minute.

Rovers were given a further boost just before the interval when home centre half Bradley Anderson collected his second yellow card.

Despite the man disadvantage the St Mark's Park team continued to look dangerous on the break.

But the nerves were settled just before the hour as Rob Sterricks fired home a second to double the Peebles advantage.

The introduction of captain Zavaroni had given Rovers some additional pace.

And it wasn't long before he raced onto a through ball to make it 3-0.

And in the 72nd minute Zavaroni was on hand to score the fourth.

Although Craigroyston did pull a goal back through Harry Girdwood in the closing stages there was no danger of any comeback.

Peebles will now go into the quarter-final draw with the likes of Kelty Hearts, Spartans, Bonnyrigg Rose and Penicuik Athletic.

Peebles Rovers: Tom Kerr, Jamie Mackay, Ben Gettel, Alan McMath, Gregor Lamb, Jon Davidson, James Dodds (Lee Zavaroni 56), Cameron Sclater, Grant Wilson, Callum Mackenzie & Robert Sterricks (Ross Lamb 60).
