A LATE Steven Brisbane strike fired East Stirlingshire into the final of the Lowland League Cup.

The 24-year-old former Clyde midfielder netted in the closing stages for Derek Ure’s team to beat Spartans 2-1 at Ainslie Park.

Connor Greene had earlier cancelled out Adam Corbett’s opener for the home side.

Shire boss Ure said: “We showed great character to come back as Spartans caused us problems in the first half.

"We had to be patient out there, but we started creating some good chances.

“We want to end the season on a high and there’s no better way to do it than lift the Lowland League Cup.”

Shire will face BSC Glasgow in next weekend’s final after Stephen Swift’s side swept aside Stirling University in the other semi.

Declan Hughes and Ross McMillan both scored for the home team at the Indodrill Stadium before Dominic Slattery pulled a goal back just before half time.

But a second-half brace from teenager Carlo Pignatiello secured a 4-1 victory for the league runners-up.

Manager Swift said: “Stirling University have been in good form coming into this match and we knew it would be a test.

“I thought we took our chances well and when Carlo got our third I knew we could relax.”

The final will be played on Sunday at Peffermill.
