SOME of the region's top hockey players of yesteryear turned back the clock at the weekend to claim the Scottish Inter-district Masters Championships.

Regional teams from across the country descended on Kilgarston School in Perthshire for the annual tournament.

And it was the South of Scotland who won with four victories and two draws throughout the competition.

Janet Jack, who was part of the South team, told us: "Six games in a day is tough in any sport, especially for those who have a number of years behind them, but the experience and the fitness of the ladies was evident from the start and the squad played some fantastic fast-paced hockey throughout the day.

"Despite the weather, it was a great day of competitive sport, proving that age is no barrier in the game of hockey with many fine skills and some great goals scored and saved on the day."

The South of Scotland squad - featuring Katie Francis, Suzanne Laing, Lil McNab, Sue Sloan, Sue Cleaver, Janet Jack, Denise Fairbairn, Elena Lunn, Patsy Gallagher, Jacks Wilson, Lisa Paterson, Elena Lunn, Natasha Cranston and Claire Townsend - beat the Midlands 2-0, the North 3-0, Highland 1-0, and East 1-0. They also drew 0-0 with West and 1-1 with Central.
