TWO of Peebles High's talented netball teams are hoping for world domination later this month.

Fresh from further Scottish success the school's Under 13s and Under 15s team are making their final preparations to take part in the inaugural World Schools Games Netball Cup.

During competition at Loughborough University on the weekend of June 22 and 23, the Peebles girls will face opposition from across Europe as well as the likes of Egypt, Nigeria and Dubai.

Peebles High's Under 15s captain Jess Mitchell told us: "The Peebles High netball girls and I are ecstatic for this opportunity to represent our school at this once in a lifetime competition.

"We have been working hard at training and are ready to enjoy this adventure as a team of best friends.”

As well as many hours on the court practising, the girls have spent the last few months raising funds by baking and bag packing.

And they have several businesses to thank for their sponsorship and support, including Persimmon Homes, Peebles & District Round Table, Sainsbury’s, The Tontine Hotel, Forysth’s, Brown & Out, and BARC coaches.

A special thanks must also go to Cullen Kilshaw for sponsoring new netball dresses for both netball teams and 20:20 Opticians who provided training t-shirts for both squads.

Peebles High Rector Campbell Wilson told the Peeblesshire News: “I’d like to express our kindest thanks to all local companies who have sponsored our teams and made their participation in the World School Games possible.

"I must also take this opportunity acknowledge the legacy of the now retired coach of Peebles Netball, Linda Nicholson, without whom netball in Peebles would not be the redoubtable force that it is.

"Good luck girls, we’re all behind you.”
