BORDERS athlete Ellie O'Hara has set a new Scottish record in the triple jump.

And the 16-year-old from Cardrona followed up by setting a new best distance in the long jump.

The Scottish Schools champion, made the long trip down to Bedford to compete up an age group in the England Under 20s Athletics Championships and European Athletics trials.

Despite the long journey and heat in the south, Ellie came away with yet another new Scottish Under 17s triple jump record and personal best of 12.58 metres - and improvement of seven centimetres on the previous record she set four weeks earlier.

The following day Ellie also set an outstanding new long jump personal best of 5.93 metres.

The jump consolidates Ellie's position at the top of the Scottish Under 17s rankings for long jump.

Ellie will compete in the Schools' international against England, Wales and Ireland schools next month in Wales, and is also in contention for the Welsh Under 20s international meet, with selections being made next week.

It wasn't such a happy meeting for Selkirk's Henry Clarkson.

One of the favourites to take the Under 23 England title in triple jump, having posted some strong performances and leading the Scottish Men's rankings this year, Henry pulled up in the first round with a niggling ankle injury, sustained in competition a few weeks' ago.

Henry's season is now on hold with hopes of returning to competitive action in August.
