Peebles Rover 2

Nithsdale Wanderers 3

PEEBLES were just 180 seconds away from reaching the third round of the South of Scotland Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Ryan Bisset's team had raced into a two-goal lead against the team from Sanquhar.

Despite conceding midway through the second half it looked like they would hang on for the win.

But a double from Sean Mackenzie in the closing three minutes left the home fans reeling.

Jamie Mackay opened the scoring for Rovers after only four minutes.

Although the South of Scotland team looked dangerous it was Peebles who were to double their advantage in the 18th minute with David Lindsay converting a penalty.

The strong wind made it difficult for both teams.

But after the break it was the visitors who began to get on top.

Dylan Irving threw Nithsdale a lifeline with his strike in the 72nd minute.

Peebles defended well to keep Wanderers at bay, but they were undone in the 90th minute with Mackenzie's first.

And just a couple of minutes later, with penalties looming, the towering scorer added another to his tally.
